Fished the Ruby River between the dam and the Vigilante public access. Water was high and the spillway was running full. We endured a steady rain all day and the temperature was in the high 40′s. Waster clarity was not bad but the water rose a few inches throughout the day which caused some problems moving along the river; it was impossible to wade across the stream. Notwithstanding the marginal conditions, fishing was good and we caught fifteen fish mostly brown trout but a few rainbows; all were in the 15 – 18 inch size range. We took most of the fish on a San Juan Worm and a few ate small split backs and pheasant tails. Give this river a few rain free days to stabilize and fishing should be excellent with some dry fly action in the late afternoon.
