A hefty upper river Rainbow taken on a split back.

The Beaverhead continues to fish very well.  The upper section from Clark Canyon Dam to High Bridge is as good as it gets anywhere in Montana right now.  The fish are nymphing very well with PMD’s, BWO’s, and the occasional midge hatch starting to come off.  The PMD and BWO nymphs are thick in the water system right now and the trout and keying in on the them.  Split backs, master nymphs, HBI’s, ray charles, grey scuds, and foam back emergers have been Tight Line Adventures top bugs.

The water levels are help steady, or steadily increased over the past week allowing the water clarity to remain clear, and also helps the trout stay in a consistent feeding pattern.

The Beaverhead below High Bridge is also fishing well.  Because the fish are eating early and often, you’re best bet is to get down there as soon as possible to have an excellent chance at getting to the fish before they stop feeding.  Most boats are concentrated from the Dam to High Bridge, so if you’re looking for some open water I’d hit the stretch from High Bridge to Henneberry and put on at around 9 am.  Fishing should be good as you’ll get to the fish before anyone else, and get them while they’re feeding!  Same bugs down low as up high, but mix in some soft hackles and sjw’s along the way.  Assorted PMD nymphs and caddis nymphs along with orange and grey scuds will work as well.
