What a great day to be Fly Fishing Southwest Montana! We had some great weather and equally great fishing. The upper river is fishing extremely well as PMD nymphs are drifting in the system and getting heavier each day. The fish are still taking scuds and sow bugs, but our biggest hitters were the PMD nymphs. There were even a handful of adult PMD’s out and flying around.
The river is still continuing to hold steady at around 450 cfs of outflow from
the Reservoir providing consistent holding patterns for the fish. We are looking at possibly getting a little rain in our area this weekend, so the flows may hold at that level a few days longer. Expect to see an increase in flow in the coming weeks as irrigation demands increase. Look for dry fly fishing to get better each day.
Bugs: Size 12, 14, 16 grey, green, and orange Scuds. Size 16, 18 Hunchback Infrequens. Size 16, 18 Hard Case PMD. Size 16, 18 Angle Case PMD’s. Size 16, 18 green and brown PMD and BWO split backs.
