The Beaverhead River was the place to be yesterday and today as the weather couldn’t have been nicer on the first few days of March. Yesterday brought a ton of midges out and the fish found them both subsurface and ate them a few times on top in the back eddy’s. Small tailwater tiny’s, zebra midges, silver lightning bug, and pink soft hackle sow bugs worked well below, and small midge patters; adams, gnats, and small black spinners worked well on top.
Today was more of a nymph and streamer day as the wind kept the bugs from blanketing the water. However the fish were a little more active today than yesterday in their feeding patterns. Pink sow bugs, and small green nymphs, WD 40 etc worked well in about a size 20. Turned a few fish on black/olive streamer and hooked one. Landed a few on the grizzly/black and got some lookers on a brown sculpin pattern.
Weather is supposed to be on the mid 40′s all week and if the wind isn’t blowing too hard the midges should keep coming off which will entice the fish to feed.
